ABOUT ME

Eric Yiskis - Photographer and Astrophotographer

In college, I got interested in astrophotography. The thought of taking photos of anything in space was really exciting. Also I love optics and cameras just from a physics and gadgets point of view. This was a good if somewhat obscure way to learn about the technical aspects of photography.

But the thing that's (mostly) missing from astrophotography is the 'art'. I realized that I was drawn to the artistic and storytelling possibilities of photography. I began to point my cameras at terrestrial targets. Coming from a purely technical background, I knew this was going to require a whole new set of skills--skills that weren't a natural fit for me. I knew it was going to be a long road. But the lure of artistry was too strong to resist.

It's not enough to photograph interesting subjects. The elements of the photo have an underlying, beautiful structure that the viewer feels, and is drawn to on an emotional level. They feel it even if they can't describe why they like the photo.
