Feathers For Scales
Anhinga "Snakebird" basking in the sun. Floridians will tell you that unlike ducks, these birds don't have sufficient oil their wings, they are not waterproof and need to dry their wings. Researchers say this is a misconception. The difference is actually the microscopic structure of the wings, not a lack of oils. Anhingas and Cormorants hunt fish underwater, and having waterproof wings would create too much buoyancy for that. In other words, it's a feature and not a bug.

Green Cay Limpkin
Named for its limping gait through the marsh grass. Limpkins are over two feet tall.

Judys First Frog
Judy Rapp spotted this frog in the Green Cay.

Peeking Through
Encountered a very small, young raccoon digging in the dirt. He kept a close eye on us.
